Tony Pidgley CBE and Jim Farrer founded the Berkeley Group in 1976. The business, based in Weybridge, Surrey, initially concentrated on building single-family houses and executive complexes. In its first year, the Company built four houses, all of which were sold off-plan, resulting in a turnover of £121,000 and a profit of £21,000.
Berkeley Group constructs houses and communities in London, Birmingham, and the South of England. They revitalize underutilized property by creating inviting, sustainable, and nature-rich environments in which communities flourish, and people of all ages and backgrounds enjoy a high quality of life.
They specialize in long-term brownfield regeneration, concentrating on complicated locations out of reach for traditional homebuilders. All in all, the Berkeley Group is highly collaborative, with municipalities and communities to develop a shared vision and unleash a combination of social, environmental, economic, and commercial value that benefits all of our stakeholders.
Berkeley has always had a single goal in mind: to create ideal homes, enhance communities, and improve people’s lives. They’ve created a distinct culture and vital principles that influence how they operate and haven’t altered since our start.
Building on these foundations, the group developed their Vision, a long-term plan to govern the Company, in 2010. Over the decade, it propelled us ahead and helped us lead the industry in critical areas like customer happiness, biodiversity conservation, climate action, and innovative manufacturing.

Help to Buy: Equity Loan* is a government program that involves participating home developers, and they are proud to claim that Berkeley Group has been a part of it from its inception. Help to Buy simplifies house ownership for first-time purchasers. You need a 5% down payment, and your mortgage is topped up with a government equity loan, lowering your monthly mortgage payments. The loan has no interest for five years and must be returned after 25 years or when you sell your property, whichever comes first.
The new plan will be in effect until March 2023. However, the company already accepts bookings for houses that will be ready after March 2021.

While there is no question about the high quality of Berkeley Group Holdings’ properties, some are concerned. Their commissions seem to be more than usual, with even happy customers grumbling about the pricing. Furthermore, many customers have expressed dissatisfaction with customer support and after-sales services. As a result, we would suggest Berkeley to real estate veterans capable of managing construction problems on their own. Otherwise, you may have to wait months or years for assistance with any unforeseen issues. Overall, Berkeley Group Holdings is a fantastic construction business, but it still has a long way to go in other areas.
